After shootings, buses stop running during the morning in Salvador

Three neighborhoods in Salvador were left without public transport services this Thursday morning (23). In two locations, Vila Verde and Residencial Coração de Maria, shootings were reported. In the Santa Cruz neighborhood there was a threat to set fire to the collectives. The situation caused inconvenience for the population that depends on buses throughout the morning.

The Military Police confirmed to the CNN that, after an exchange of gunfire, a suspect ended up dying early in the morning, in Vila Verde. At the scene, police officers from the 49th CIPM seized a firearm, ammunition and drugs. The agents were carrying out patrols in the region when they came across a group of armed men who, upon realizing the presence of the military, shot. One suspect died.

At Residencial Coração de Maria, the PM said that there was no record of police action or action to investigate complaints in the locality. However, the Municipal Mobility Secretariat (Semob) confirmed that public transport buses in Salvador stopped circulating there due to shootings.

Due to rumors that collectives would be set on fire and that is why they stopped entering the Santa Cruz neighborhood, policing was intensified in the region. The objective, according to the PM, is “to guarantee the safety of everyone, users and operators of public transport, as well as the circulation of buses”.

Earlier this afternoon, Semob reported that service in the neighborhoods of Santa Cruz, Coração de Maria and Vila Verde had already been normalized. Municipal agents continue to monitor the circulation of collectives.
