Air Baltic aspires to bring Greece closer to Riga

Closer to Riga and the other major Baltic cities is hoped to bring Thessaloniki and Northern Greece by Air Baltic, based in Latvia, which currently operates two direct flights a week from Macedonia Airport during the period May-October, while from this winter it plans to start winter routes between Athens and the Latvian capital. The above was disclosed by the company’s executives during today’s presentation – in Thessaloniki – of its planning for the near future, which was organized by “Air Baltic” and “Fraport Greece” and had two parts: on the one hand, the increased interest of of Latvians for holidays in Greece (smaller for Thessaloniki and Northern Greece) and on the other hand the “attractions” of Riga were presented, which make it a tempting destination for holidays in all four seasons of the year.

The assessment that Latvia – accessible via “Air Baltic” flights in just over three hours – can offer a lot to Greek travelers, was expressed by the country’s new (as of March) ambassador in Athens, Ieva Briede: characterized Latvia as an excellent destination for nature lovers (“more than 50% of its territory is covered by forests, parks and forests, it has 12,000 rivers and over 2,000 lakes and 500 kilometers of white-sand beaches, while one can enjoy a Scandinavian summer with all around green”), but also for lovers of urban escapes, architecture (“about 1/3 of the buildings in Riga are made in the “Art Nouveau” architectural style, which is found in the highest concentration in Europe in such a small area”) and history (the country is home to a large number of castles and palaces, with hundreds of its attractions preserved and offered not only for guided tours, but and some for overnight stays).
