The Japanese police handcuffed a man today, Thursday (16/11) who crashed his vehicle into a bar near the embassy of Israel in the Tokyo. As a result of the accident, a police officer was injured, as reported by Japanese media.
Television footage captured a dark-colored vehicle crashing into a barrier at an intersection about a hundred meters from the Israeli embassy.
The person arrested on the spot is a 50-year-old member of a far-right organization, according to a portion of the Japanese press.
A spokesman for the fire department told AFP that his service received an “urgent call” to send an ambulance at 11:57 (s.s. local time; at 04:57 Greek time).
“I heard a very loud bang and went outside to ascertain what had happened,” an employee of a nearby restaurant told Japanese public broadcaster NHK.
“I saw an injured policeman suffering near a traffic barrier. He seemed to be bleeding,” he added, as reported by the Athens News Agency, citing AFP.
The Japanese police declined to comment on the incident. A spokesman for the Israeli embassy was not available.
