All the dogs (and a cat) of American presidents

With the arrival of Joe Biden, dogs are also returning to the White House, and they do it as protagonists: with them in Washington Biden brings the first adopted dog to ever cross the threshold of the presidential home. It is about Major, German Shepherd taken from a kennel in 2018, to keep company a Champ, the other German Shepherd who has lived with the President and First Lady Jill Biden since 2008.

Major’s arrival was greeted with an «Indoguration» ceremony on Zoom organized by Pumpkin Pet Insurance and the Delaware Humane Association (Dha) of Wilmington, the association that manages the shelter where he arrived, very ill, before Joe and Jill Biden welcomed him into the house.

The President and the First Lady have always been great animal lovers (also for this reason they were supported in the election campaign by animal rights activists and associations that manage shelters), and this also means that their arrival in Washington will allow them to continue a long tradition, broken only by Donald Trump.

Apart from him, who did not even want a goldfish in the White House, there was no president who did not welcome at least one dog (sometimes even a cat). Perhaps because, as Harry Truman once said “If you want a friend in Washington you must have one.”
