Almost 6,000 cars could go to auction due to lack of regularization in SP; see if yours is on the list

THE The São Paulo State Department of Transit (Detran-SP) announced that 5,793 vehicles may go to auction starting next Thursday (12), due to lack of regularization.

Vehicles fined for violating traffic laws are days away from being listed for auction. The vehicles will be fully available for 10 days. The list was published in Official State Gazette. The distribution of cars takes place in two yards in São Bernardo do Campo: SBC-1-Municipal (Roberto Scarpelli Amedeo Bigucci Street, 240, Bairro das Casas) and SBC-Febem (Domingos Potomati Avenue, 1,103, Batistini Neighborhood).

According to the National Traffic Council (Contran), in order to recover the vehicle, it is necessary to pay off any outstanding debts, which include the cost of removal and storage, and regularize the vehicle. The rules are described in Resolution 623 of the Council.

Who can withdraw and deadlines

In addition to vehicle owners, requests for regularization may be made by financial agents, lessees, creditor entities or anyone subrogating the rights to the seized units.

Vehicles that are not removed within ten days are subject to a bidding process, in the form of an auction for sale. In practice, once the ten-day period has elapsed, it is as if a yellow light has come on.

However, the owner or the person directly linked to the vehicle can redeem it up until the day before the auction through the services of “Release of Vehicle seized due to traffic violation by DETRAN-SP”.
