Almost 90% of Brazilians think 2021 was a bad year for the country, says Ipsos

For most Brazilians, 2021 is a year that will not be missed. This finding comes from the “Global Advisor Predictions 2022” survey, carried out by the Ipsos Institute in Brazil and 32 other countries. Around here, 87% of respondents agree that the year that ends in the next few days was not good. An index higher than the world average of 77%.

Respondents answered the question: “Do you agree or disagree that 2021 was a bad year for the country?”. The Brazilian average was the fifth highest found in the survey, behind South Korea, Spain and Romania (89%), in addition to Argentina (88%).

At the other end of the list, the countries in which 2021 had the lowest rejection were: China (41%), Saudi Arabia (48%) and Denmark (58%). The survey also sought to learn specific insights. In Brazil, 70% of respondents considered that 2021 was a bad year for themselves and their families. An indicator 14 percentage points above the global average (56%).

Brazilians rank fourth among the most disappointed with their personal and family trajectories in 2021, just behind South Africa (77%), South Korea and Turkey (74%). The least dissatisfied with the year just ended are the natives of China (39%), Sweden (40%) and Holland (42%).

Favorable scenario for 2022

The consultation also sought to learn about the world’s view of 2022. And, if Brazilians didn’t like 2021, at least they have hopes for the next year. Altogether, 82% of respondents said they believe that the next year will be better than the one that ends. The same proportion of respondents said they intend to outline resolutions and goals for 2022.

In both cases, the indicators exceed world averages, 77% for the first subject and 75% for the second. Confidence in the economic recovery, among Brazilians, is 65%. Volume that exceeds the world average of 61%.

The countries with the highest personal expectations for 2022 are: China (94%), Saudi Arabia and Mexico (90%). The lowest are in Japan (54%), Belgium (58%) and Turkey (59%).

Much of the global optimism is linked to the advance of vaccination against Covid-19.

In Brazil, 76% of respondents believe that at least 80% of the world population will be vaccinated with at least one dose in 2022. The world average is 56%.

The most optimistic about the advance of vaccination in the world in 2022 are the Peruvians: 81% believe that the mark will be reached. The most pessimistic are the Swiss; only 55% believe the premise.

The survey took place between the 22nd of October and the 5th of November, with more than 22,000 respondents aged 16 to 74, in 33 countries, through online interviews.

Among those consulted, one thousand were Brazilian. The study has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
