The federal government launched, this Wednesday (30), the “Alert Amber” program, known worldwide in 30 countries to help missing or kidnapped children and adolescents.
The partnership is between the Ministry of Justice and Public Security and the company Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram.
The two social networks will issue alerts to users with information about the missing person and a photo within a 160-kilometer radius of the incident report.
Alerts will be released for children who are at risk of life or bodily injury. According to Minister Flávio Dino, the state police must inform the ministry about the cases and the folder will contact the platforms for triggering the reports on the home page.

Initially, the program starts in Minas Gerais, the Federal District and Ceará immediately. The government’s expectation is that in January of next year other states will join and is considering expanding the partnership to other social networks, such as Whatsapp, Google and Telegram.
“The first job is data consolidation. The second is the definition of protocols and manuals related to this theme and the third step is in partnership with Meta”, said Minister Dino.
Emily Vacher, global director of Responsibility and Safety at Meta and a former FBI agent, stressed that the warnings will not be trivial to ensure their effectiveness.
“I would like to emphasize that these alerts will be used in cases that need specialist attention, not excessive amounts. We will only use it in cases of greater risk that can be resolved with the help of the public,” said Emily.
From January to July this year, 42,272 children and adolescents disappeared. Of these, 26,292 were located, according to data from the National Secretariat for Public Security (Senasp). The idea with this partnership is to speed up the searches and elucidation of cases.
