Amber Heard is asked about drug use and love messages sent to Depp

Amber Heard testified again this Tuesday (17), during the $50 million defamation case initiated by her ex-husband. Johnny Depp .

After testifying for several days that Depp’s drug and alcohol use would turn him into a “monster”, and that would be the beginning of violence against her, a lawyer for Depp questioned Heard about his own drug use, including the “scheduling ” they would do to get high while they were married.

“Who was the real monster in this relationship, Ms. Heard?” asked Depp’s attorney Camille Vasquez.

“It’s half of Johnny. It’s not all about Johnny. The other half of him is wonderful and beautiful and the man I loved,” Heard testified.

Depp accused Heard of defaming him in a 2018 editorial written for the “Washington Post.” In the article, published about two years after the divorce, Heard described himself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” Although Depp was not named in the article, he claims it cost him lucrative acting roles.

Heard then filed a lawsuit for $100 million.

On the witness stand, the actress described her relationship with Depp as violent and romantic, stating that his alleged violence against her was related to drug and alcohol use.

“It was always the man who used drugs and beat me. Yeah, that was always the monster,” Heard testified.

Depp has previously testified that he has never “beaten any woman” in his life.

Lawyer Vasquez pointed to Heard’s own drug use, presenting Depp and Heard’s handwritten wedding plans on the actor’s private island in the Bahamas, which included time for “dancing, drugs and music” after the ceremony.

“So, did you plan on using drugs in your marriage to someone you characterize as a drug addict?” Vasquez said.

“To be fair, we would have separate parties,” Heard said. “This is clearly a draft that was submitted before many changes were made.”

Messages between Heard and Depp

Vasquez also played recordings of Heard and Depp arguing, read excerpts from a Heard “love journal” filled with messages for Depp, and read texts exchanged between them.

In one, written in April 2016, Heard wrote: “I’m sorry, I might go crazy. I’m sorry for hurting you. None of this is an excuse to hurt you because the truth is, nothing is a good enough reason to hurt you.”

Heard wrote in a March 2015 text to a doctor: “I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to change.”

She testified that she was referring to the former couple’s relationship.

“I really wanted to leave the relationship I was in. But I didn’t feel like I had the power to leave,” Heard testified. “I knew I was in a very toxic relationship with Johnny. And I knew I needed to change that.”

On tapings, Heard told Depp that he was a “sold out” and a “joke”. Depp called her “the most spoiled brat in the world”.

“I called it horrible and ugly things, as you can hear. We talk to each other in a horrible way,” Heard admitted.

When the lawyer asked Heard how she landed her role in “Aquaman,” one of her best-known roles to date, the actress tersely replied.

“Mr. Depp got you that role in ‘Aquaman,’ didn’t he?” asked Vasquez.

“No, Ms. Vasquez. I got this role by auditioning. That’s how it works,” Heard replied.
