Doctors trapped inside Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza City say they are unable to reach the injured outside due to intense fighting in the area.
The information was released by the Palestinian Red Crescent Society on Thursday (16).
From inside the hospital, ambulance crews can hear explosions and gunfire, according to the group providing humanitarian and medical assistance in Gaza.
“There are several martyrs and injured people in the hospital courtyard, about 30 meters away, that our teams cannot reach,” the Palestine Red Crescent Society said.
Al-Ahli is the only hospital in northern Gaza that is operational and capable of admitting patients, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said on Wednesday (15).
A British-Palestinian surgeon said, also on Thursday (16), that it is no longer possible to perform surgery there.
“The hospital is now effectively a first aid station,” Dr. Ghassan Abu-Sittah said in a statement, adding that hundreds of people are injured and unable to access surgery. “They go because of the injuries,” concluded Abu-Sittah.
