Amd Will Not Impose Hashrate Limits On Its Graphics Cards

AMD is not going to further limit the performance of the Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics cards due to the increased demand from miners, since this has already been done at the hardware level. This was announced by the product manager of the company Nish Nilalojanan at a briefing by PC Gamer.

“The short answer is no. We will not block not only mining, but also any workload, ”said Nilalojanan.

The new GPU incorporates fast Infinity Cache with reduced bus width.

“The RDNA architecture and even more so RDNA 2 were designed specifically for games. Therefore, Infinity Cache and a smaller bus width were chosen to achieve specific gaming results, ”said an AMD spokesperson.

He added that mining requires a higher bandwidth and bus width, so the architecture of the Radeon RX 6700 XT was not originally designed for cryptocurrency mining.

“All our optimizations are primarily related to games. Gamers will get a lot of benefits from this, but it will not be ideal for mining workloads, ”summed up Nish Nilalojanan.

High-performance RDNA 2 graphics cards based on the Navi 21 chip achieve computing power of about 58-64 MHz / s when mining Ethereum.

Earlier, specialized media, citing an insider, announced AMD’s plans to release a line of specialized video cards for mining cryptocurrencies.

In February, Nvidia announced its decision to halve the hashrate of the GeForce RTX 3060 desktop GPU. She explained this by the desire to orient the model to the needs of gamers and argued that it was impossible to bypass the protection.

Later, Chinese miners, using an undescribed algorithm, were able to crack the protection of the video card and overclock the device to 50 MH / s. However, the information has not been officially confirmed.

The performance limitations of the GeForce RTX 3060 were then circumvented using an experimental Nvidia driver. The company confirmed the bug and removed the software from its website.
