Americanas announced this Friday (13) that it is no longer part of the advertisers for the TV Globo program, Big Brother Brasil. The retailer had the highest sponsorship share of the program.
The decision came after the company disclosed, in a material fact, the detection of inconsistencies in accounting entries estimated at R$ 20 billion.
According to the press office, “at this moment, the company is focused on business management and on the purpose of offering the best experience to its customers, partners and suppliers.”
CNN got in touch with TV Globo’s advisory and is waiting for a position from the broadcaster on which would be a possible new sponsor.
BRL 20 billion
Americanas shares advanced this Friday (13), after falling by almost 80% the day before, after the retailer announced “unprecedented accounting inconsistency”. Around 5:50 pm, the assets rose 18.38%, to R$ 3.22.
On Thursday (12), the retailer’s assets fell 77.33%, ending the day at R$ 2.72.
The volume of the gap predicted in the company’s balance sheet is equivalent to the market value of Magazine Luiza, which, on Wednesday (11) was worth R$ 20.20 billion, or Lojas Renner, which was also worth R$ 20.22 billion , according to calculations by Einar Rivero, from TradeMap.
The announcement caused CEO Sergio Rial and Investor Relations Officer André Covre, who took office on January 2 of this year, to announce their resignation from their positions.
