Americanas said this Thursday (19) that it is considering filing for urgent bankruptcy “in the next few days” or “in the next few hours” given its cash position, a week after revealing an accounting scandal of at least least BRL 20 billion.
The company stated that its cash position is BRL 800 million, of which a “significant portion” was “unjustifiably unavailable for handling on yesterday’s date”.
The day before, BTG Pactual won a legal battle with the retailer. A writ of mandamus reverses a previous decision dealing with the R$1.2 billion dispute between the two parties.
With the decision taken this Wednesday (18), BTG reverses part of the effects of the decision taken by the Justice of Rio on Saturday, which was favorable to the retailer and determined the return of R$ 1.2 billion paid to the financial institution.
