Amy Schumer explains why she dropped out of starring in the live-action “Barbie”

Long before Margot Robbie brought “Barbie” to life, Amy Schumer was the actress scheduled for the project in 2016. At that stage, the rights to the work belonged to Sony Pictures.

However, less than a year after casting, the actress opted out of the feature, according to the magazine. “Variety”.

In an interview with “Watch What Happens Live” this Thursday (8), the actress admitted that she left the film due to “creative differences” and that the work, until then, was not “feminist and cool”.

“I can’t wait to watch it, it looks amazing,” the star began. “I think we said scheduling conflicts, that’s what we said. But yeah, it really was just creative differences. But, you know, there’s a team behind it and it seems to be very feminist and cool, so I’ll go check it out,” she added.

When host Andy Cohen asked if the script didn’t “feel feminist and cool” at the stage she was cast, Schumer responded, “Yeah, yeah.”

It is worth mentioning that, even during the shutdown of the work, Amy sent a statement to “Variety” explaining herself. “Unfortunately I can’t commit to ‘Barbie’ due to scheduling conflicts,” she says in an excerpt.

“The film promises a lot, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I am upset but looking forward to seeing Barbie on the big screens,” she said.

Meanwhile, in 2022, the actress told the “The Hollywood Reporter” that Sony didn’t want to do the project as it dreamed. “They definitely didn’t want to do it the way I wanted it, the only way I was interested in doing it,” she declared.

Barbie is almost here!

Finally, the “Barbie” project ended up leaving the hands of Sony Pictures and passing to Warner Bros., when Margot won the rights through Mattel.

The protagonist of the time also guaranteed the presence of Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach in the production of the script.

Today, the cast includes the participation of Ryan Gosling (Ken), Emma Mackey (Barbie), Simu Liu (Ken), Kingsley Ben-Adir (Ken), Nicola Coughlan (Barbie), Michael Cera (Allan) and Will Ferrell ( Mattel CEO).
