In Azerbaijan, an official and two journalists were killed in a mine explosion. It was reported by the local state television AzTV.
The tragedy took place in the Kelbajar region controlled by Azerbaijan. The dead – the operator of AzTV Siraj Abishov, correspondent Maharram Ibrahimov and deputy representative of the head of the executive power of the village of Susuzlug Arif Aliyev. All of them will be awarded the title of martyrs (this is how the people who died in the Karabakh war are called in Azerbaijan – ed.).
According to media reports, the film crew was traveling in a military truck to the village of Susuzlug. In addition to the operator and the correspondent, the director of the TV channel Emin Mammadov, the driver and the local resident accompanying them were also in the car. They received injuries of varying degrees and were hospitalized.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan states that the tragedy occurred as a result of the mining of the country’s territories by the Armenian military.
The Military Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan has already opened a case under articles on the conduct of an aggressive war and violation of international humanitarian law.
Kalbajar region is located on the border of Azerbaijan and Armenia. In 1993-2020, the city of Kelbajar was part of the so-called “security belt of Nagorno-Karabakh”, which was outside the originally declared territory of the unrecognized republic, but controlled by the NKR. From November 25, 2020, following the results of the second Karabakh war and on the basis of a trilateral agreement between Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia dated November 10, 2020, the city, together with the region, returned under the control of Azerbaijan.
