The attempted attack on former President Donald Trump on a golf course is unlikely to significantly alter the voting intentions of the American electorate, according to an assessment by the international relations analyst at CNN Fernanda Magnotta.
Magnotta stated that “from an electoral point of view, in relation to the election, with each passing minute, the feeling I have is that our prediction from yesterday, that this would be quickly accommodated and put on the back burner, seems to be coming true”.
The incident, which occurred just over 48 hours ago, involved a gunman on the golf course where Trump was present.
Unlike the previous case in Pennsylvania, where shots were fired that nearly hit the former president, this time the suspect did not actually fire a shot.
Collateral impacts of the incident
Although Magnotta does not foresee significant changes in the electoral scenario, he highlighted that the case raises important questions about security in the United States. The analyst highlighted three main points of discussion:
1. The need for technological updating of the secret service, both in the use of intelligence data and in surveillance systems;
