Andrew Garfield is “100% willing” to play Spider-Man again

It’s entirely possible that one day we might see Andrew Garfield hanging from a skyscraper like the Spider-Man again.

That’s according to the actor himself, who told Esquire in an interview published Wednesday that he would “100% return” to reprise his role as the beloved web-slinging superhero.

According to him, the return would happen “if it was the right thing, if it was an addition to the culture, if there was a great concept or something that hasn’t been done before, that is unique, strange, exciting and that you can delve into”.

Garfield succeeded Tobey Maguire in the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and although his first performance opposite Emma Stone in 2012’s “The Amazing Spider-Man” was very well received, the sequel two years later was met with much less enthusiasm.

The reception was so cool, in fact, that a third installment in the franchise was shelved by Sony, the film’s studio, and the return of Garfield’s Spider-Man at the time was left in limbo — or, as he described it to Esquire, ” hanging.”

But Garfield found his way back into his superhero costume when he made a surprise cameo in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” alongside Maguire and Tom Holland, who succeeded Garfield in the role.

His and Maguire’s appearances in the film were enthusiastically received by “Spider-Man” fans and beyond, making “No Way Home” the highest-grossing film of that year.

Being able to embody the character once again in the film, Garfield said, “was really healing for me.”

“I love this character, and he brings joy,” he added. “If part of what I bring is joy, then I get joy in return.”

It’s too early to say whether “The Amazing Spider-Man 3” will finally become a reality, but if it does, it’s quite possible that many will be happy.
