The American actress Angelina Jolie 49, said that discovering and immersing herself in the story of Maria Callas and the world of opera transformed her life. The Hollywood star stars in the Chilean director’s new film Pablo Larrain “Maria” .
“I grew up in the United States. In other countries, they understand how much this [ópera] is essential and important, and is much more part of the culture, but not where I was raised. I was introduced [a Callas]but it was a complete discovery of this new art form, which came into my life and transformed it,” he said in an interview with Indie Wire.
“I hope that most people, regardless of how they identify with the film, will make that discovery and let themselves feel it and try to sing it. If I can do that…”, he declared.
To play the opera singer in the biopic, Jolie underwent breathing, posture, accent and singing training for more than six months. She revealed that she was initially terrified, but that she had plenty of time to perfect her interpretation of the singer.
Maria” was shown at the Venice Film Festival on August 29. The actress was in tears after the screening. The film has already generated Oscar buzz since its premiere. Larraín previously directed “Jackie” (2016), starring Natalie Portman like Jacqueline Kennedy, and “Spencer” (2021_, with Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana. Both actresses received Oscar nominations for their performances.
