Animals drown in pet shop during flood in Porto Alegre

A pet store owned by Cobasi had all its animals killed due to flooding in the unit, in Porto Alegre, in the Praia de Belas neighborhood. The information was confirmed by Cobasi this Saturday (18).

The company's communications department informed the CNN that the unit needed to be evacuated in an emergency, according to guidelines from the State Civil Defense.

“It was ensured that the animals were safe and had what was necessary for survival until the return of employees, which we considered to be brief. But the tragedy was unprecedented,” the company explained.

According to them, Cobasi made constant attempts to access the site, but it was not safe due to the water level and, with regret, they reported the loss of the lives of all the animals that were present in the unit.

“The company will continue to work with animal protection NGOs, in the region and across the country, to save the lives we can, while we mourn those we were unable to save”, concluded the position.

According to information from the latest Civil Defense bulletin, 12,215 animals have been rescued from floods in Rio Grande do Sul, since the beginning of the heavy rains that hit the state, on April 29th.
