Anthony Blinken testifies about leaving Afghanistan just before his term ends

The outgoing Biden administration’s secretary of state, Anthony Blinken, will testify before a Republican-led House committee on the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan in August 2021, ending a long dispute with the committee some only weeks before the end of his term. The House Foreign Affairs Committee and the US State Department have been arguing for months over whether Blinken should appear before the former. Republicans on the committee voted in September – weeks before the US presidential election – to recommend that the US top diplomat be charged with contempt of Congress for failing to comply when called to appear.
