The National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) reported that it received, on Thursday (2), a request from the city of São Paulo to reduce the interval for the application of the booster dose of the vaccine against Covid from five to four months -19.
According to Anvisa, the request was received this Thursday morning and will be answered in the shortest time possible.
In a statement, Anvisa reported that the guidelines on the booster dose in Brazil are different for each immunizing agent.
Pfizer has already requested an evaluation and had an application approved by Anvisa and authorization to include the booster dose in the package insert. AstraZeneca and Janssen also requested the inclusion of a booster dose, but the requests are being evaluated by Anvisa. As for Coronavac, no evaluation was requested on the booster dose, according to Anvisa.
On November 24, Anvisa’s Collegiate Board presented a series of recommendations on the application of booster doses of vaccines in priority population groups.
As a booster dose, Anvisa defines the application of one more dose in the population, in addition to the primary vaccination schedule, which can be one or two doses, depending on the vaccine used.
