British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned Russia on Thursday that any incursion into Ukraine would be a disaster for the world, saying London supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and integrity.
US President Joe Biden predicted on Wednesday that Russia would make a move against Ukraine, saying Russia would pay dearly for a full-scale invasion, but suggesting there could be a lower cost for a “minor incursion”. .
Biden’s comments at a White House press conference injected uncertainty into how the West would respond if Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion of Ukraine, prompting the White House later to try to clarify what Biden meant.
Asked about Biden’s comments, Johnson warned Moscow against any sort of incursion.
“Have no doubt that if Russia were to make any sort of incursion into Ukraine, on any scale, I think it would be a disaster, not just for Ukraine, but for Russia. It would be a disaster for the world,” Johnson told reporters.
“The UK fully supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and integrity.”
