“Apple lied and is abusing its monopoly power again” – Tim Sweeney believes Fortnite may be out of the App Store for up to five years

According to Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney (Eat Sweeny), Apple has broken its promise and Fortnite will remain blacklisted in the Apple ecosystem as long as the companies continue to sort things out in an appellate court.

Last year, Epic added in-app direct purchase to Fortnite, bypassing Apple’s in-app purchase rules. This violation of App Store rules led to Apple removing Fortnite from the App Store, after which the companies met in court. A couple of weeks ago, a court ordered Epic to pay a portion of the Fortnite app revenue using its own payment system. Then Epic Games paid Apple $ 6 million.

Tim Sweeney said Apple was lying when it said it would bring the game back to the App Store. After Epic Games confirmed that the company was ready to comply with all the rules, Apple refused to restore their developer account.

Apple lied. Apple has been telling the world, the court and the press all year that they welcome Epic’s return to the App Store if we agree to play by the same rules as everyone else. Epic agreed, and Apple backed down and again abuses its monopoly power over a billion users.
