Apple sues former employee who passed secrets to media correspondent

Apple has filed a lawsuit against a former employee named Simon Lancaster. Apple believes Lancaster, who has worked for the company for more than ten years, abused his position and the trust of an employer by systematically disseminating confidential information representing Apple’s trade secrets for personal gain.

According to the lawsuit, Lancaster passed the data on to an unnamed journalist, who then published the stolen trade secrets in articles citing a “source” at Apple. Lancaster has repeatedly offered to grant Lancaster benefits in exchange for Apple’s trade secrets. For example, as a reward for the service, Lancaster invited the correspondent to provide favorable coverage of startups in which Lancaster was an investor. He even hired a correspondent as his personal investigator.

Among the secrets that Lancaster stole and passed on to the correspondent are details of unreleased products, changes in products and future announcements.

After leaving Apple, Lancaster joined Arris, which was Apple’s supplier. Just before leaving, he copied a significant amount of confidential documents from the corporate network to his personal computer. According to Apple, some of the trade secrets misappropriated by Lancaster are directly related to his role in his new place of work, and it is likely that the violation of the law still exists.

Apple is looking forward to compensation and an end to illegal activities.
