Approved assisted suicide in Tuscany – patients can interrupt the procedure whenever they want

The Tuscany region became the first area of ​​Italy to approve the assisted suicide. The initiative is based on a verdict of the Supreme Court of Italy and the widespread jurisdiction provided to the regions of the country, health and care. From now on, in this region with the capital of Florence, a special committee of scientists will examine the patients’ demands for euthanasia, with a special “Bioethics Group” opinion. Subsequently, in the event of the approval of the Commission, the procedure should be completed within 54 days, finding the relevant drug and, possibly, the necessary technological equipment. Patients will be able to decide the process at any time. In 2019, the Supreme Court of Appeal decriminalized, under certain conditions, the “assisted suicide”.
