The State of Lightning report says that the number of Lightning Network users increased by 20% in August this year. By 2030, the number of users may grow to 700 million.
Arcane Research predicts gaming, video streaming, and audio will become the primary use of the Lightning Network. By
forecasts, by 2030 there will already be 700 million users in these categories. For example, companies like Spotify or Netflix can use the network to conduct microtransactions and offer per-minute streaming services.
“We estimate the number of Lightning transactions to be 364 trillion by 2030,” the report said.
The study was conducted in collaboration with OpenNode, a Bitcoin payment processing company. Lightning Network usage has grown since the adoption of Bitcoin by El Salvador in September this year. Analysts predict that 90% of El Salvador’s population over 15 will have access to the Lightning Network in 2026. This is due to an increase in the annual growth rate of Internet use in the country by 15%. The report also highlighted the role of Paxful’s peer-to-peer cryptocurrency exchange platform with a 7 million user base. Twitter has integrated with the network through the launch of a bitcoin tip service.
“The volume of bitcoins on the Lightning Network at the time of writing was over $ 120 million. Users around the world appreciate the ability to make instant payments with low fees.”
