Arcelor entrusts Sarralle with a 755 million euro steel company in the US that will produce steel for the automotive industry

Sarralle, the Gipuzkoan company that emerged in the 1960s in Azpeitia, will be in charge of the construction of a huge ArcelorMIttal steelworks in Alabama (USA). A major technological challenge to build a practically entirely steel which, in a second phase, will be complemented with a second line. ArcelorMIttal intends to start up its new steel industry in the first half of 2023 with a global budget of $ 755 million. The plant will produce per year 1.5 million tons of high-quality steel plates primarily for the automotive sector.

The Gipuzkoan company Sarralle will supply this plant to ArcelorMittal and will be equipped with the greatest technological development in the world’s metal industry. Sarralle keeps a close Collaboration with ArcelorMittal for five decades now and provides in this project basic components such as electric arc furnace 180 ton DC, a double ladle oven also 180 tons, a material handling plant that feeds various operating stations including the addition of pre-reduced materials to the Electric Arc Furnace and the so-called Sarralle Bluesky Plant which is a smoke extraction system last generation created by the Basque firm.

Technological solutions that also apply both to minimize environmental impacts and to guarantee the maximum occupational safety for the approximately 200 employees that the plant will have. An installation that will generate other 100 indirect jobs. For the construction of the new steel industry, another 500 jobs in the assembly and start-up phases.

Sarralle is a business group created in 1965 in Azpeitia, leader in industrial engineering in the energy, iron and steel and environment sectors (among which it carries out waste recovery and water treatment projects), and is dedicated to the development of ‘turnkey projects’. It offers solutions that cover the design, engineering, manufacture, assembly and commissioning of machines and installations for these sectors worldwide.

Have 5 lines of business: steelmaking, rolling, metal coil processing, metal furniture and engineering solutions for different sectors, such as energy and environment. Its current workforce is around 500 workers and, in addition to the Azpeitia plant, it has factories in Zumaia and Venta de Baà ± os. Abroad, it is also present in India and Mexico. Sarralle is part of the group of 80 companies, corporations and institutions that support the creation of a Basque hydrogen corridor in Bizkaia.
