Five people, two women and three children, were killed and 35 others were hospitalized after inhaling smoke when a fire broke out in an apartment building in a Buenos Aires district this morning.
The fire, the causes of which remain unclear at the moment, started around 6 in the morning, local time, from an apartment on the 7th floor of the building, in the Recoleta district. It quickly grew in size and expanded to the upper floor. In total, this building has 14 floors.
Firefighters evacuated two women and three children who were “unconscious” and died while being taken to hospital. According to Alberto Cresedi, director of the SAME emergency service, four of the victims had inhaled smoke and a fifth had burns.
Of the 35 injured, a 52-year-old man is being treated by intubation, in serious condition.
