Argentina’s economy shrank by 1.2% in December compared to the same period a year earlier, the country’s official statistics agency (INDEC) reported this Thursday (23). For the year 2022, however, the country’s economic activity grew by 5.2% compared to 2021.
Compared to the same month of 2021, ten of the activity sectors that make up the Monthly Economic Activity Estimator (EMAE) recorded an increase in December, including Fishing (+15.5%), Hotels and Restaurants (+10.8% ) and Mining (+10.8%).
In the annual variation of the EMAE, the Mining sector (+10.8%) had the highest positive incidence, followed by Real estate activities (+2.3%) and Hotels and restaurants (+10.8%).
On the other hand, the Agriculture, livestock, hunting and forestry sector (-18.0% compared to the same period of the previous year) was the one that registered the biggest drop in the annual comparison, followed by the Manufacturing industry (-2.1%) and Wholesale trade (-1.1%).
