Armie Hammer reveals: ‘A pastor abused me when I was 13’

Armie Hammer breaks the silence and, after two years of cannibalism accusations, releases the first interview telling the online magazine with an open heart Air Mailretracing childhood traumas, suffered and perpetuated violence and suicidal thoughts.

The accusations

First things first: the 36-year-old Californian, nephew of a treasure magnate, stars next to Timothée Chalamet in Call me by your name, experienced a downward spiral right at the peak of his career. And today she answers in detail since one of the most ferocious scandals that has hit Hollywood in recent years has been unleashed. In January 2021 he had limited himself to a single post on social media defining the online attacks as “malicious”. What was it about? Instagram account first House of Effie and then a series of women shared private messages that the star had forwarded to them, even during the years of his marriage to Elizabeth Chambers: they spoke of sexual fantasies about torture, mutilation and cannibalism. Not only that: others have come forward to talk about requests and violent intimate habits, non-consensual sex and rapestatements that a few days later the actor denied in a statement from his lawyer to the magazine U.S. Weekly. In March, the Los Angeles police opened an investigation.

The reply and the story of the abuses

In the case of Effie, Hammer declared that it was consensual sadomasochistic practices (it was 2017): he confessed them to his wife – the actor clarified in the interview – when the girl threatened him to do it for him. And in May he also went to a rehabilitation center for alcohol and drug abuse.

From that moment he retraced the childhood episodes that led him, according to him, to develop a certain approach towards sex and the female gender. At the age of 13, a pastor of the church he attended with his family abused him: «He introduced me to sexuality in a way that was totally beyond my control», he declared, «I had no power. And since then I have decided: I want to have control in matters related to sex ». At the time he confessed to his mother that the man made him uncomfortable but she dismissed the matter: “He wants to give you attention, which is a nice gesture”.

The actor – to whom a documentary was also dedicated – admitted the violent practices but insisted that they have always been consensual, even if in the case of Effie he claims to have organized the scenario/fantasy together before putting it all into practice (and insists it wasn’t a real rape). However, he also said that he emotionally abused various women: «I involved them in a very intense and extreme life, but when I was done with the whirlwind of travel, sex, drugs and strong emotions, I left them to move on to the next one».

Among other statements in the interview, Hammer admitted to having attempted suicide in February 2021, when he moved to the Cayman Islands: «I started walking on the beach and swimming in the ocean as far from shore as possible hoping to drown, get hit by a boat or swallowed by a shark». Only the thought of two children Harper and Ford would have dissuaded him.
