Art can be impressive but also very strange and, honestly, very few understand it. Recently, the Italian artist Salvatore Garau sold one of his sculptures for more than 18 thousand dollars, a price that many think is fair to have it in their living room or decorate a special space. However, there is a small detail that we must take into account: the sculpture is invisible!
Yes, the artist auctioned an “immaterial sculpture” which he called I am. Internet users still do not understand how this event happened, but they already have the best responses on Twitter.
A work of art that no one can see
Salvatore called his work I am, which in Spanish means “I am” or “I am”. It is a work that is based on “nothing”, that is why it is invisible. According to an interview for the newspaper AS, the artist explained his work thus:
The vacuum is nothing more than a space full of energy and even if we empty it and there is nothing left, according to Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle, nothing has weight. Therefore, it has energy that is condensed and transformed into particles, that is, in us.
It was auctioned for more than 18 thousand dollars
The “intangible sculpture” went on sale at the Italian auction house Art-Rite in May. The buyer received a certificate of authenticity along with the instruction that the work must always be in a space of five by five meters and free of obstructions, where no lighting or climate control is required. In addition, it must be “displayed” in a private home.
When I decide to “exhibit” an immaterial sculpture in a given space, that space will concentrate a certain amount and density of thought at a precise point, creating a sculpture that, from my title, will only take the most varied forms.
