US President Joe Biden cited the Amazon in his speech at COP27 this Friday (11) and called for an end to deforestation around the world.
Biden said preserving the environment is one of the most important ways to prevent climate change.
According to him, indigenous peoples, who are “forest protectors” in various parts of the globe, have learned a long time ago that these biomes are worth much more standing than deforested. “It’s that simple,” he emphasized.
The American president also recalled that it is not necessary to create any new technology to prevent forests from being deforested.
In his opinion, it is enough to make everyone understand their value and that actions are taken to avoid cutting down trees.
Biden also cited the forests of the Congo Basin in Africa and the US forests and swamps as examples of biomes that need to be preserved.
