At least nine people were shot at a water park in Michigan, in the United States, this Saturday (15). A suspect was detained near the crime scene, police said during a news conference.
“Nine, maybe 10” victims were injured by gunfire after action at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.
Rochester Hills is 27 miles north of Detroit, Michigan’s largest city. One of the victims was 8 years old, Bouchard said.
Authorities located a gun at the scene.
The suspect fired “approximately 28 times” and is in custody, Bouchard said.
According to authorities, the man arrived in a vehicle and was already armed. There is still no information about the motivation for the case.
“We had an active shooter at the splash pad in Auburn in Rochester Hills,” the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post before the news conference. “This is still an active scene and we potentially have the suspect detained nearby, but we ask that people stay away from the area.”
A CNN contacted the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office for more information.
