An Israeli strike in southern Beirut killed at least one woman and injured several others on Tuesday (30), some seriously, according to Lebanese media.
The victims were transferred to three nearby hospitals, state news agency NNA reported. Israel claimed responsibility for the attack and said it targeted a Hezbollah commander.
The latest escalation came after Israel blamed Hezbollah for a rocket attack that killed 12 children in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Sunday. The Iran-backed militant group has denied responsibility.
Hezbollah crossed “red line”
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said Hezbollah had “crossed a red line.”
“Hezbollah has crossed the red line,” Gallant posted on X, minutes after the Israeli military claimed responsibility for the offensive.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that it “carried out a targeted strike in Beirut against the commander responsible for the murder of the children in Majdal Shams and the deaths of several Israeli civilians.”
The military did not provide details on how the attack was carried out.
Lebanon’s state news agency NNA said the attack was carried out by a drone that fired three missiles.
The IDF statement came shortly after the Hezbollah-run Al Manar TV agency reported a loud explosion heard in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital.
The area is a populated part of Beirut and a stronghold of the Iran-backed armed group.
