A domestic case coronavirus recorded in Australia today, the first after more than two weeks, as a doctor tested positive for covid-19 resulting in hospital restrictions.
Queensland Prime Minister Anastasia Palace said the doctor cared for two patients who had recently returned to Australia and tested positive for the British variant of the coronavirus.
“We know that this doctor, who assessed the health of two patients who were positive for covid-19, was in the hospital at the time. “Now she has symptoms,” Palacey told reporters in Brisbane. This is the first domestic coronavirus case reported in Australia since 24 February.
According to the APE-MPE, the doctor, whose name has not been made public, continued to care for patients in the hospital, which prompted the authorities to launch an intensive campaign to track down her contacts, said the Prime Minister of Queensland. Authorities do not yet know how many patients the doctor cared for.
As authorities try to understand the extent of the outbreak, Palace said all Brisbane hospitals were suspending visits.
A little over 29,000 cases of coronavirus and 909 deaths from covid-19 have been reported in Australia.
