“Coffee with God the Father” was the best-selling book in Brazil in 2023, and this year’s edition ranks first in sales for 2024 so far, according to Publishnews surveyprepared based on consultations with more than 30 bookstore chains in the country.
Junior Rostirola bestselling author and evangelical pastor, is one of the names confirmed for this year’s São Paulo Book Biennial, which begins on Friday (6). In an interview with CNN he explained why he considers his book “a true miracle.”
“Due to your day to day, the hustle and bustle of everyday life, [as pessoas] end up leaving aside the time dedicated to God. And the book allows us, in the midst of this whirlwind of our daily lives, in a short coffee break, to have the presence of God with us,” he said.
“This is the great difference of the book, because through simple and profound language, ‘Coffee with God the Father’ has connected people with God, leading to a true relationship with him, and therefore being a true miracle. A phenomenon that reaches all over Brazil and now also outside of Brazil,” he added.
The book is, in fact, a phenomenon of reach in Brazilian literature. Just in the lists counted by the Publishnews survey — which excludes sales figures on Amazon and other websites — “Café com Deus Pai” sold more than 90 thousand copies, becoming the best-selling book in Brazil in 2023, still in its first edition, by Editora Vida.
The 2024 edition, published by Vélos (created by the pastor to sell his books), sold 36,000 copies last year, reaching 12th place on the list. In the ranking of best-selling works this year, “Coffee with God the Father – 2024” reigns in 1st place, with more than 180,000 copies sold until September, a number more than three times greater than the second place (“This is how it ends”, by Colleen Hoover).
The book is a devotional diary with 366 messages, with the proposal of taking a moment of the day to reflect on a text or quote every day.
Rostirola may be the author behind this sales feat, but he does not accept taking sole credit: “The book won the hearts of Brazilians and reached all audiences, in fact. And even though today we have a whole team working, where we always try to deliver the best, it would not be enough to get where we are alone. I understand and recognize this every day, because I see God’s action blowing not only Café com Deus Pai, but my story of transformation generated over the years.”
“It will never be about numbers, but about lives and purposes,” he added. “Through its pages many people have been healed and found a Father in God, and that is the intention.”
Participation in the SP Book Biennial
Rostirola will also participate in the 27th São Paulo Book Biennial, which begins on Friday (6). The pastor will be at the stand dedicated to his book every day of the event, and will also be part of a chat at the Arena Cultural, the main stage of the Biennial, scheduled for September 12, at 5:45 pm.
“Coffee with God the Father – 2025” will be launched during the literary event.
“I am so happy to be able to participate in the largest cultural event in Latin America. It is a great opportunity to connect with my readers, where we will exchange experiences and share what the book has provided us together,” he said.
According to Rostirola, expectations are high: “My entire team and I are working to always deliver the best of what God has placed in our hearts.
