Four people were found dead and dismembered inside a burning vehicle in Acapulco, southern Mexico, including a candidate for local government office in the June 2 election, local authorities said yesterday. The candidate was named by his faction, the PRI (“Institutional Revolutionary Party”, for decades dominant in the Mexican political scene). It was, according to its announcement, about Anibal Zuniga Cortes, candidate for mayor of the community of Cojuca de Benitez. The candidate and his wife were “callously murdered,” the local PRI organization in Guerrero state complained. The bodies of two more people were found inside the vehicle and the prosecutor's office is investigating serial murders. Besides, the night before last Thursday, in the state of Chiapas (south), a candidate was murdered after a pre-election event. Lucero Lopez Massa was a mayoral candidate in Concordia.
