Anfavea, the entity that represents automakers, reported this Friday (6th) that 250,000 vehicles were no longer produced last year due to lack of electronic components. The shortage of semiconductors (chips) in the world has become the sector’s biggest production bottleneck in the last two years, causing constant production stoppages.
Despite this, the management of Anfavea assesses that the regularity in the supply of parts has been improving amid the slowdown of developed economies, which curbs the demand for components.
Automakers produced 2.37 million vehicles last year, a result that exceeds by 5.4% the total manufactured in 2021. Anfavea’s balance sheet includes passenger cars, light utility vehicles, trucks and buses.
“We noticed a greater softness in the semiconductor crisis”, commented Márcio de Lima Leite, president of Anfavea, before lamenting, during the presentation of the final numbers for 2022 to the press, that the year would have been better if the lack of parts had not been “ so heavy”.
Vehicle sales ended 2022 down 0.7% compared to the previous year. The management of Anfavea explained that, in addition to the closures and less movement at the dealerships on the days of the Brazilian team’s World Cup games, the traffic departments of several states did not register cars on the last day of the year, which jeopardized the accounting of sales. of December in statistics.
Leite considered that the industry numbers remain low, considering that ten years ago sales exceeded 3.8 million vehicles and studies commissioned by brands, in addition to Anfavea itself, pointed to a market that would reach 4.5 million to 5 million units per year.
With sales hovering around 2 million vehicles in the last three years, the president of Anfavea pointed out that the factories operate with significant idleness.
