Canadian singer Avril Lavigne turned 40 this Friday (27). However, for years the artist’s fans have speculated that she had died and been replaced by a look-alike.
One of the biggest names in pop-punk, Avril has hits such as “Complicated” , “Girlfriend” and “Sk8ter Boi” . After a few years of her career, she became the target of conspiracy theories that suggested that she would not have been able to deal with the pressure of being a star — something that would have led to her death.
Going even deeper, conspiracists even claimed that the singer had been replaced by a look-alike named Melissa. All of this is due to Avril Lavigne’s physical appearance, which never seems to age.
This year, during an interview with the Call Her Daddy podcast, the artist commented for the first time on the subject. “It’s just funny to me,” he laughed. “Like, on the one hand, everyone says, ‘You’re still the same thing! You haven’t aged at all!’. On the other hand, there is a conspiracy theory that I am not me. Honestly, it’s not that bad. It could be worse, right?”.
“I feel like I have a [boato] good. I don’t think it’s negative. It’s nothing sinister! Obviously it’s me, so it’s nonsense. I think they did that to other artists. I’m not the only one. I think, like, other people go through this”, joked the Canadian.
