Award-winning British conductor John Elliott Gardiner slaps singer for exiting stage by wrong exit

THE British conductor John Elliott Gardiner, 80, has announced that he has canceled all performances he had planned for this year and will seek psychological support.

The announcement of the cessation of his appearances conductor John Eliot Gardiner comes after the news that he allegedly hit a singer in the previous days at the Côte-Saint-André festival in France and specifically baritone William Thomas, for exiting the stage through the wrong exit.

“I’m withdrawing to get professional help, recognizing that I’ve needed it for some time” he said in a statement. He also asked apologies “to those who felt I mistreated them and from those who may have been disappointed by my decision to take some time off to work through my issues,” adding that “I’m sorry for causing so much grief”.

The multi-awarded chief musician, who also participated in the coronation of King Charles III in Mayhad also canceled an appearance this September at the legendary London classical music festival.

His associates attributed the episode with William Thomas to the heat prevailing in those days in France but also to the change in his medical treatment. However, in previous interviews he had described himself as “impatient”.
