Bankers want lower interest rates and more efficient digitization in 2023

Representatives of the banking sector spoke on Tuesday (9) about the expectations of increasingly digitalized institutions and the hope of lower interest rates next year, as inflation shows signs of cooling.

the president of Cashier Daniella Marques, the president of the Bank of Brazil Fausto de Andrade Ribeiro, and the president of Bradesco Octavio de Lazari, participated in the opening panel of Febraban Tech 2022, at 11 am this Tuesday, at the Bienal de São Paulo.

“For 2023, we hope that we can overcome this specter of inflation. All I hope and ask is that we don’t have a high interest rate and people can extend their debts, with a lower interest rate so that everyone can pay”, said Octavio.

Right at the beginning of the event, the president of Caixa, Daniella Marques, had to leave due to bank commitments.

Before leaving the stage, Daniella said that digital transformations are already taking place in Brazil, and the trend is to expand the services that are being implemented.

“For us to develop the citizen, you insert him in the market and consequently in the products. When we look at Pix, Open Finance and Open Banking, we see it all through technology. So I believe that this innovation represents a great opportunity for Brazil and for the consumer”, he highlighted.

During the panel, Pix was presented as a success case by the three leaders present. According to moderator João Borges, director of Febraban, Pix has already held more than 14 billion transactions and moved about BRL 7.5 trillion .

Bankers said they hope the success of the BC’s instant payment tool will maintain the positive wave of Brazilians taking up other services that began last year.

The president of Banco do Brasil, Fausto de Andrade Ribeiro, highlighted that the institution bets on Open Finance, a service that offers personalized products to customers who share their data, according to the analyzed characteristics of each one.

“We intend to offer the best experience for the customer, from the sharing of data, so that we can build personalized offers. The challenge is to do it at scale,” he said.

“We just started, but we’ve already learned that 90% of those who shared data with us had customized solutions. The effectiveness rate of these offers was double compared to those that were made blindly,” she pointed out.

Both Octavio de Lazari and Fausto de Andrade Ribeiro believe that the digitization of institutions should accelerate from next year.

“We want a digital bank in practice, which has processes that start and end digitally. We are working to remove steps that take the client to an agency. In addition, we are looking for increasing specialization in the service network, which is part of the globalization process”, points out the president of Banco do Brasil.

Octavio de Lazari said that technological adaptation is necessary to improve and advance the services offered.

Bradesco’s president also declared that, for 2023, the progress of the economy depends on the level of the basic interest rate, a drop in inflation and growth above what is being stipulated for next year by the market.

“Expectations for GDP growth this year have improved, but for next year it is still very bad. I hope that economists are wrong once again and that we can have greater growth next year, already considering the more normalized global supply chains and oil reaching US$ 90”, he said.
