Barcelona, concert with 5 thousand people: the experiment to revive live music

The music tries to restart. It happened to Barcelona where, last March 27, 5,000 people attended a concert as part of an experiment to test the return of live events after Covid-19. While in Italy the watchword is to relax, in Spain an alternative way is sought while respecting the rules and protocols. The concert, which saw the Spanish rock band Love of Lesbian playing at the Palau Sant Jordi arena was organized with the approval of the health authorities who tested the participants in three locations around Barcelona.

The antigen test results were reported to viewers within 10-15 minutes via an app on their phones, while the ticket price, priced at around $ 23, it included a quick test and a mask that the public had to wear for the duration of the concert, which was also the largest live event in Europe since the outbreak of the pandemic. The idea behind the experiment is simple: understand if it is possible to organize live music events without social distancing through the use of rapid tests.

Last December, Barcelona’s Primavera Sound Festival allowed 1,000 people to attend an event at a 1,600-seat venue: when the results were analyzed the following month, no infection rates were found. Hope is, therefore, to seek an alternative solution to allow the industry to resume after a particularly tough year, which has led thousands of show business workers to lose their jobs and give up their wages in view of better times that, right now, are still far away.
