Shannen Doherty, the eternal Brenda from “Barred at the Prom”, is selling her belongings to make her mother's life easier when she dies.
The 52-year-old actress is facing stage 4 cancer and has decided to get rid of her furniture and personal items because she is determined to make the grieving process “easier” for her mother, Rosa.
“My priority at the moment is my mother. I know it's going to be hard for her if I pass away before her,” Shannen explained during an episode of her “Let's Be Clear” podcast.
“[Por ser] very painful for her, I want other things to be much easier. I don't want her to have a lot of unfinished business to deal with. I don’t want her to be left with four warehouses full of furniture,” she continued.
The star admitted that she had difficulty parting with her Tennessee home because she planned to renovate the property and turn it into a horse sanctuary, and felt like she was “giving up” on her dream.
“I was packing things and I started crying… I felt like I was giving up on a dream and what that meant for me. Did it mean I was giving up on living? Did that mean I was throwing in the towel?” she said.
Now, Shannen is trying to make the most of the time she has left, using the money from the property sale to make precious memories on fun vacations with her mom.
“It allows me to go on more trips because I’m making money. So I can build memories with the people I love. I can take my mom on vacation because I have all this extra money to spend and I'm not touching the money that's in my estate, which will ensure everyone in my life is taken care of after I die,” he shared.
Shannen was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and underwent brain surgery and radiation therapy in January 2023. In an interview with People in November last year, the artist reported that the cancer had spread to her bones, leaving her with a life expectancy of “three to five years”.
