Barroso gives government five days to explain the situation of the Yanomami population

Minister Luís Roberto Barroso determined, on Wednesday (17), that the federal government explain, within five days, the situation of the population ianomâmi in the country, including information on nutritional conditions, access to clean water, and health services and medicines.

The Yanomami people live in the Amazon. Its land occupies parts of the states of Amazonas and Roraima.

The minister ordered the Union to present information on “all the measures necessary to ensure the minimum conditions in such areas, as well as their safety, as exhaustively determined by this Court and provided for in the General Plan to Combat Covid-19 for Indigenous Peoples ”.

“I further determine that the Union indicate: (i) the measures adopted in such areas, from the first injunction granted by this Court, as well as (ii) the name and position of the responsible authorities”, it decided.
