Belarus has no plans to take part in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, but is sending five regular battalions to its border to replace forces already stationed there, Army Chief of Staff Viktor Gulevich said on Saturday, according to Reuters.
“I want to emphasize that the transfer of troops is in no way connected with (any) preparation and especially not with the participation of Belarusian soldiers in the special military operation on Ukrainian territory,” Gulevic said.
A top Ukrainian security official warned Belarus on Friday not to send troops to Ukraine, saying it was showing restraint against Belarus despite the country being used as a base for Russian aircraft.
