Beyoncé Calls Madonna a ‘Genius’ for Remix of ‘Break My Soul’

For lending the iconic tune of “Vogue” to the new remix of “Break My Soul” by Beyonce , Madonna (aka Madge, the Queen of Pop, Madame X, etc.), was given a new title: “masterpiece genius”, bestowed on her by Bey herself.

Beyoncé sent Madonna a letter of gratitude – as well as a stunning bouquet – days after the release of a collaboration between them that yielded a new version of “Break My Soul,” which takes inspiration from “Vogue.”

At the time of its release in 1990, “Vogue” marked one of the first works in mainstream pop culture that highlighted elements of the queer, black and Latino scene.

“Thank you queen,” read Beyoncé’s message, according to an Instagram post Madonna shared on Tuesday. “I’m so grateful for you. You have opened so many doors for so many women. You are ‘masterpiece genius’.” (“Masterpiece genius” appears in the lyrics of the third track of “Renaissance”, “Alien Superstar.”)

“Thank you for allowing me to sing on your song and thank you for naming the remix!!!!” Beyoncé wrote, referring to the official name of her collaboration “Break My Soul” – “The Queens Remix”.

In her remix, Bey praises artists who inspire her, including “Queen Mother Madonna” and her sister, Solange, as well as Lizzo, Grace Jones (twice!), Aaliyah, Aretha Franklin and her “Destiny’s Child” co-star and best friend. , Kelly Rowland.

Beyoncé also nods to some of the legendary groups that have shaped her music, including House of LaBeija and House of Xtravaganza, whose members helped coin much of the language Beyoncé dispenses throughout the album.

Beyoncé pays tribute to LGBTQ artists on “Renaissance,” as well as a number of black queer and trans musicians who helped shape it, including DJ Honey Dijon, Big Freedia and the late New York drag pioneer Moi Renee.
