Biden on missile in Poland: Ukrainian air defense is responsible for the explosion

US President Joe Biden told his country’s G7 and NATO partners that the rocket explosion yesterday Tuesday in Poland was caused by Ukrainian air defenses, an Alliance img told Reuters today.

Biden had told reporters in Indonesia, where he is for the G20 summit, that it was “unlikely” that Russia launched that missile.

Sunak: None of this would have happened without Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said today that the blow to Poland, whatever its origin, “would not have happened without Russia’s invasion of Ukraine” pointing to the intensity of Russian bombing at the time of the incident.

As Poland spoke of a “Russian-made” missile and Kyiv blamed Moscow, which Moscow denies, Rishi Sunak told reporters during of the G20 summit in Bali that the investigation must continue, as broadcast by international agencies and relayed by the Athens News Agency.

“None of this would have happened without Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, that is the harsh and unforgiving reality of Putin’s war,” added the British prime minister.

“As long as it continues, it will pose a threat to our security and the security of our allies, and as long as it continues, it will continue to destroy the global economy,” he said.

“There is not a single person in the world who has not felt the effects of Putin’s war,” he said, referring to the spike in energy and food prices.

He pointed out that Russia launched 80 missiles against Ukrainian territory yesterday “at the time of its meeting G20”, which shows “a complete disregard for a rules-based international system”.

Earlier, the new British Prime Minister had a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the presence of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

On the subject of the attack on Poland, Sunak and Trudeau “emphasized that whatever the outcome of the investigation, Putin’s invasion of Ukraine was responsible for the violence,” Downing Street announced.

From Vilnius, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausenda spoke about the need to strengthen NATO air defenses on the Ukrainian-Polish border and the rest of NATO’s eastern flank.

“I hope that by the time of the NATO summit in Vilnius (July 2023) we will be able to make progress, as the situation confirms that it is the right decision and needs rapid implementation,” the Lithuanian president said, adding that yesterday’s incident in Poland did not raised the level of military risks and warning that “accidents and possible missile deviations are likely to occur in the future”.
