The Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) 2023 have just announced their finalists and, as expected, Taylor Swift had the highest number of mentions, participating in 20 categories — and the singer is already the biggest female winner of all time. awards, with 29 victories.
In this edition Taylor has a chance to surpass Drake, who has 34 BBMAs, and who this year had 14 mentions, in addition to taking another record from the rapper, for the most awards won in one night — Drake received 13 awards at the 2017 ceremony.
Following the list of finalists, we have Morgan Wallen and SZA, runners-up, with 17 mentions each; followed by The Weeknd (16); Drake and Zach Bryan (14); Luke Combs (10); 21 Savage, Metro Boomin and Miley Cyrus (nine each); Beyoncé and Rema (seven each); Bad Bunny and Featherweight (six each); and Ariana Grande, David Guetta, Eslabon Armado, Karol G, NewJeans and Selena Gomez (five each).
Presentations and awards will be broadcast on the BBMA and Billboard social channels, as well as on the official awards website on November 19th. The artists who will perform during the ceremony will be revealed from November 6th.
This year, the awards are launching new categories to recognize styles that have grown in popularity such as K-pop and Afrobeats, as well as best songwriter and producer on the Hot 100, among others.
Two legends stand out at this year’s awards: Whitney Houston, who has accumulated 16 BBMAs awards, is a posthumous finalist for best gospel album for “I Go to the Rock: The Gospel Music of Whitney Houston”.
And Elton John is a finalist in two categories this year: best rock touring artist and best dance/electronic song, for “Hold Me Closer”, a collaboration with Britney Spears.
At the BBMAs, winners are determined by year-end Billboard chart performance metrics, which measure music consumption between November 19, 2022, to October 21, 2023.
