Body found in a twin-engine accident was that of the aircraft pilot

The body found on Thursday (25) was identified at the Forensic Medical Institute (IML) in Campo Grande, Rio de Janeiro, during the search for the three victims of a twin-engine plane crash, on the north coast of São Paulo. According to the victim’s girlfriend, the body was that of Gustavo Carneiro, who was piloting the aircraft.

The commander was only 27 years old and was born in Corumbá, Mato Grosso do Sul.

This Friday (26), at 05:00 am, the joint action of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), the Brazilian Navy and the Fire Departments of Rio and São Paulo intensified the search for the other two occupants of the plane.

They were identified by relatives such as José Porfírio, aged 20, co-pilot of the twin-engine, and businessman Sérgio Dias Alves Filho.

At a press conference, the commander of the Military Fire Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Colonel Leandro Monteiro, stated that the searches do not have a closing date.

“The fire department never gives up, we are looking to find the victims alive,” he said. The accident site was also one of the points highlighted by the commander. The region is the same where deputy Ulysses Guimarães died in 1992, in a helicopter accident.

“It’s really a tricky area. There has already been an accident in that region, by federal deputy Ulysses Guimarães. We are mobilized to resolve this tragic accident as soon as possible”, said Monteiro.

In the region of the searches, wreckage similar to the plane was also found. In addition to the FAB and the Fire Department of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, the family also rented three vessels to search the region.

The twin-engine crashed in open sea near Ubatuba, on the coast of São Paulo, and Paraty, in Rio de Janeiro. The plane left Campinas (SP) around 20:30 last Wednesday (24) and would land at Jacarepaguá airport, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, at 21:30. From 9 pm onwards, however, there was no further contact with the occupants.

According to the ANAC record, the plane could not operate as an Air Taxi, but was allowed to fly at night. Ownership of the aircraft is in the name of the co-pilot, José Porfírio. The inspection was up to date.
