Bolsonaro appoints Morgana Richa as minister of the Superior Labor Court

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) appointed, this Monday (13), the jurist Morgana de Almeida Richa as the new minister of the Superior Labor Court (TST).

The confirmation was published in the Official Gazette of the Union.

Richa was a judge at the Regional Labor Court of the 9th Region, in Curitiba, ParanĂ¡, and will take the place of Minister Walmir Oliveira da Costa, who died in April 2021 as a result of Covid-19.

Richa’s name had subsequently been approved by the Federal Senate.

In the hearing held at the House’s Committee on Constitution and Justice (CCJ), she promised to adopt social pacification and the defense of legal security as the guideline for her work in the court, based on consideration and dialogue.

The magistrate highlighted the need to honor contractual good faith in labor relations and the importance of complying with laws and signed contracts.

The then-nominee stated that the challenges of Brazilian labor justice are greater in an increasingly technological society. The judge also recalled that the adoption of telework grew in the pandemic and so far there is no adequate regulation of this new work methodology.

Career

Morgana Richa holds a bachelor’s degree in law from the Federal University of ParanĂ¡ (UFPR) and a master’s and doctoral degree in law from the Pontifical Catholic University of SĂ£o Paulo (PUC/SP).

From 1992 onwards, she began her employment as a member of the 15th Labor Court. In 2019, she was promoted to judge. In the 2009-2011 biennium, she was an advisor to the National Council of Justice (CNJ) and chaired the Commission on Access to Justice and Citizenship.
