Brazil: Four dead from the attack on two schools

The dead amount to four from attack that occurred on Friday at two schools in the state of Espirito Santo in southeastern Brazil, as one teacher concluded.

The previous count was three dead, including a 12-year-old girl. The attack also injured 11 people, including three teachers and one student were in critical condition.

“Unfortunately, the tragedy of Arakrous is not over yet. It is with great pain that we confirm the death of another victim, Professor Flavia Merson”says Renato Casagrande, governor of the state of Espirito Santo, in a message on Twitter yesterday, without elaborating further on the injured.

The attack took place in Aracruz, a city of 100,000 inhabitants, located about 600 kilometers northeast of Rio de Janeiro. The assailant, wearing a camouflage uniform with a swastika emblazoned on it, stormed into Primo Bitti School, a public primary and secondary school, which he had left in June, according to investigators.

He entered the school through its back gate and then went to the teachers’ hall where he opened fire against several teachers, killing two people and injuring nine, according to authorities.

He then went nearby to the Praia de Coqueirall Education Center, a private school, where the 12-year-old girl who was killed in the attack was attending.

“My daughter was always full of light and love. I lost my daughter because of hate”Tais Sagrilio, the mother of the student who was killed, told the Globonews network.

The two guns used by the attacker belonged to his father, a police officerand one of them was his service weapon, clarified the authorities, who are investigating whether the young man had relations with one or more extremist groups.

The attacker was arrested at his home a few hours after the attack and, with the cooperation of his parents, surrendered to the authorities without resistance.

The youth, who is expected to be charged with homicide and attempted homicide, was taken to a juvenile detention center, police said.
